Dear Friends of TICAH,
The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH)*, based in Nairobi, has recently published
"Using Our Traditions: A Herbal and Nutritional Guide for Kenyan Families”. Its contents are available on an interactive website that can be accessed through
ticah-interactive-guide.org or through our home address,
www.ticahealth.org.
This Guide is the result of two years of community-based research and includes many of the foods and herbs that Kenyan families are using to help manage 52 common ailments, such as the common cold, sore throat, and helminthic infections. In an effort to make it more user-friendly, the Guide is designed to be accessible to low literacy users. And, in order to continue to build this body of knowledge, the site has a link that can be used to enter users’ comments. A hard copy of the Guide is available from TICAH and may be ordered on the website, or by emailing TICAH at
Listening@ticahealth.orgTICAH also offers training sessions on the use of the Guide. Please contact us at the email address above for further information.
Please share this announcement with others who may be interested. We appreciate any feedback you may provide.
* TICAH is a non-profit trust based in Kenya dedicated to using positive aspects of African cultures to improve and protect health. One of our projects is to collect, evaluate, and share herbal and nutritional health-promotion strategies. Our training and outreach programs stimulate interest in locally available foods and herbs and draw attention to household strategies of health maintenance.
Kind regards,
